AngelesXtra e-zine is pleased to continue to list details, such as activities performed, contacts, and meeting places and times for local clubs and associations that operate in and around Angeles City and Subic Bay in the Philippines. As always, this is a free service to aid local clubs and associations to increase their membership - and of course to ensure expats, tourists, locals and travelers to the area are aware of all available recreation facilities and activities provided by these local clubs and associations.

Club and Association Listings

American Legion

The American Legion has two posts in Angeles City, both with canteens/cafes open to members and non members of any nationality.

► Post 123 is at 370 Batangas Street.

► Post 10 is on Don Juico Avenue, between Garfield’s and Peanut’s.

Angeles City Flying Club

Interested in ultra light flying? ACFC has trial flights available: a 10-minute introductory flight and a 20-minute flight over the rain forest. Angeles City Flying Club is located at the Woodland Park Air Park, Talimundok, Sta Maria Magalang, Pampanga, about 15-km north-east of Clark. For more information: www.angelesflying.com

Angeles Hot Rod Association (AHRA)

AHRA membership is open to all car enthusiasts, drag racers, classic car nuts, in fact all petrol heads. AHRA hold regular events and weekly social evenings at the Hang Out, Perimeter Road, (between Honey Ko’s and Thai Hi), Balibago, Angeles City. Angeles Sports and Country Club

The club in Zeppelin St, Hensonville, Angeles City, has a swimming pool, 9-hole golf course, driving range restaurant, sports bar and pool tables. Lawn Bowls from 2.30 p.m. daily, with ‘Academy’ bowling each Sunday for young bowlers at 9:30 a.m. Beginners Lawn Bowls is on Tuesday evening under lights. Temporary Membership is available for P1,500 a month.

Balibago Social Golf Club

Based at Marina Hills Golf and Country Club, 15-km north of Angeles City, visitors most welcome. Registration Tuesdays at the Orchid Inn Resort 6.30 a.m. to 7.00 a.m. Cost for the day is P650, inclusive of green fees, transportation, prizes, and after-game presentation and entertainment. Hash House Harriers

The Hash departs from the Anchorage Inn, Real St, Angeles City each Sunday at 2.00 p.m. for walkers; 3.00 p.m. for runners. Cost is P300 per person which includes drinks at the day’s end. If a ‘newbie’ best carry a bottle of water to avoid dehydration.

Mad Dog Motorcycle Club (MDMC)

A Club for Harley Davidson and large bore cruisers, the group only accepts bikers who are dedicated to free spirited riding and brotherhood, so MDMC membership is by invitation only.  Their current meeting place is Big Hits on the lower end of Don Juico Avenue every Tuesday between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Mountain Clark Firing Range and Gun Club

Based at 15-29 Don Jose Street, Don Bonifacio Subdivision, Angeles City the range and club is open daily for members and non members. Membership is P2,000 but cheap day rates are available for gun hire/range fees for non-members.

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)

VFW has posts in both Angeles City and Subic (Barrio Barretto).

► Angeles City VFW Post 2485 is located at 381 Santol Road, on the corner of Pinatubo Street in Clarkview subdivision. The Post is open to both members and non members daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Post’s canteen (restaurant) is renowned for tasty, affordably-priced meals and the post is a popular breakfast and lunch spot, both in the non-smoking canteen area and the smoking bar/canteen area. The post also has a book and video library. VFW Post meetings are held on the first Sunday of each month at 10 a.m. for members only. ► Subic (Barrio Barretto) VFW Post 11447 is located at Dream Plaza on the National Highway, Matain, Subic.Known as one of the best places to eat American style food in Barrio Barretto, meals are available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; with the bar open the same hours, (last call at 7.30 p.m.). Retirees Activities Office RAO

RAO’s provide invaluable assistance to US military retirees, dependents and widows. Assistance and advice includes medical needs, dealings with Tricare, VA and SSA, US military ID cards, pay problems, FPO services and general support for retirees. The RAO is also an IRS Certifying Agent.

Returned & Services League

One of very few accredited sub-branches outside Australia, Angeles RSL sub branch meets in the Ponderosa Hotel, Mountain view subdivision, Angeles City on the third Tuesday each month. For more information on the Angeles City RSL go to: www.rslangelescity.com

Rotary Club of Clark Centennial

The Rotary Club of Clark Centennial, District 3790 meets every Tuesday at 12 noon at the Blue Boar Inn, Tamarind St., Clarkview, Angeles City, (near the VFW).
